Futures trading journal imports
Tradovate trading journal: CSV import guide
Bring your Tradovate trade history into a futures trading journal for setup notes, session reviews, and account comparisons. Start with a CSV export and check the imported results against the original report.

Export trade activity from Tradovate
- Open the reports area from the account dropdown or the margin section of the platform header.
- Select a report containing trade activity and choose the account and date range you want to review. A cash-history statement or subscription report is not a trade export.
- Run the report and use its download action to save the CSV. Keep the header row and export a range that contains both entries and exits.

Use a matched-trade export with dollar P&L
This guide covers CSV rows with symbol, buyPrice, sellPrice, boughtTimestamp, and soldTimestamp, plus qty and pnl. Use the report's dollar P&L values and retain the original headers.
The earlier execution determines whether the position started long or short. For a short trade, the sell timestamp precedes the buy timestamp. Overlapping matched rows can be grouped into a single position, so compare combined quantities rather than assuming one journal position per CSV row.
Fees from this layout are not imported, and the file does not assign the destination account. Select the correct Edgetweak account and check commission settings before comparing net results. A fill-level file with separate buy and sell execution rows is a different layout; this walkthrough and sample do not validate that workflow.
Upload and reconcile your first session
- In Edgetweak, create or select the account for this history. Set the platform to Tradovate and choose your firm when applicable.
- Open Upload, select the same account and platform, and choose the CSV. Review commission defaults or overrides before importing.
- In the trade log, compare a known completed position with your export: symbol, direction, quantity, entry and exit prices, and timestamps.
- Compare gross P&L and fees separately. For this matched-trade format, commissions come from the configured rate rather than the export. Confirm the rate for each instrument; a missing CSV fee does not necessarily mean a zero-cost trade.
The upload help guide explains commission overrides. Enter overrides per contract, per side—not the round-turn amount.
Try a sample Tradovate-format CSV
This synthetic file contains two completed positions: one ES long and one MES short. It contains no customer records and is not an actual broker export. Use a separate demo account if you import it.
Download the sample Tradovate CSV
| Position | Contracts | Gross P&L |
|---|---|---|
| ES long | 1 | +$50.00 |
| MES short | 2 | −$10.00 |
The two positions total +$40.00 gross P&L. They occur at separate times, so this example produces two positions. Subtract the configured commissions to reconcile the net result.
Common import questions
Why are trades missing?
A date range that cuts off an entry or exit can leave an incomplete position. Check that the export contains executed trades, recognizable symbols, quantities, and timestamps. Start with one complete session; do not rename unfamiliar columns just to force a match.
Why do session dates look different?
Compare the exported clock time and the platform's session boundary with the journal. The importer preserves exported clock times; it does not automatically convert timestamp offsets to UTC. Keep the original file and check a known trade before importing months of history.
Can I upload an overlapping date range?
Edgetweak checks for duplicate trades and can stop an overlapping import for review. Read the upload message and choose the missing date range instead of assuming every repeated file will be silently merged.
Do I need to connect my broker credentials?
No broker connection is required for this CSV workflow. You export the file from Tradovate and upload it to Edgetweak. If the file still does not parse, contact support with the platform, header names, and error message.
