TopstepX trading journal: CSV import guide

Review your TopstepX sessions in Edgetweak with trade notes, setup tags, rule evaluations, and separate tracking for account purchases and payouts. Use a completed-trade CSV to bring your history into the journal.

Export completed trades from TopstepX

  1. Select the account whose trading history you want to journal.
  2. Open the Trades tab and select Export. Choose your date range, then export the file.
  3. Wait for the export confirmation and retain the downloaded CSV with its original headers. Check that it includes entry and exit details for completed trades.

Topstep's official TopstepX guide documents exports from both Orders and Trades. This walkthrough uses completed-trade rows; an order-status file without execution or entry/exit details is not equivalent.

Check the completed-trade fields

A supported TopstepX-style layout contains the following fields. Keep them as exported; this is a compatibility check, not a request to rebuild your file manually.

ContractName and Type
The instrument and the long/short direction.
EnteredAt and ExitedAt
The opening and closing timestamps. Both are needed.
EntryPrice and ExitPrice
The prices used to open and close the trade.
Size and PnL
The contract quantity and reported P&L. Compare gross and net figures separately.

Trade IDs and other extra columns may be present. Exporting an account statement or renaming order-status columns will not supply missing entry and exit data.

Choose the account and check commissions

  1. Create or select the matching account in Edgetweak. Keep evaluation and funded accounts separate so their histories and configured rules stay distinct.
  2. On Upload, choose TopstepX as the platform and select the account. Use the platform that produced the file rather than guessing from the prop firm's name.
  3. Review the commission settings before uploading. Edgetweak's TopstepX import uses configured commission rates instead of the CSV fee columns. Confirm the instrument and the per-contract, per-side amount.
  4. Import a short date range. Compare contract quantities, entry/exit prices, gross P&L, fees, and net P&L with the platform before adding more history.

A different commission configuration can produce different net results even when every price matches. Review the commission override instructions before changing your source file.

Try a sample TopstepX-format CSV

This synthetic example uses completed-trade fields with a demo account identifier. It is not a customer record or an actual TopstepX export. Import it only into a separate demo account.

Download the sample TopstepX CSV

Expected sample positions. Net P&L depends on your configured commissions.
PositionContractsGross P&L
MNQ long2+$8.00
MNQ short1−$2.00

The example totals +$6.00 gross P&L before commissions. Zero fee values in this sample do not mean a fee-free import: the TopstepX commission configuration controls the imported fees.

Troubleshoot a TopstepX import

Why are there fewer journal positions than CSV rows?

Overlapping rows for the same instrument, direction, and account can belong to one position. Edgetweak groups those rows, including scale-ins and partial exits. Compare the combined quantity and weighted prices rather than expecting one position per row.

Why does the time differ from another report?

Check the exported timestamps and the reporting session boundary. Edgetweak preserves the clock times in the file rather than automatically converting timestamp offsets to UTC. Compare one known trade across both views first.

Does importing my trades also import payouts?

No. A trade export describes trading activity. Record account purchases, resets, and payouts separately in the prop firm cashflow tracker to compare spending with money received.

Will the journal stop me from breaking a Topstep rule?

No. Rule evaluations review imported data against the limits you configure; they do not block orders or enforce live account rules. Check your current official account terms before configuring limits.

TopstepX is a third-party platform. This guide describes Edgetweak's import workflow and does not imply an affiliation or endorsement. CSV uploads do not automatically synchronize with your trading account.

Trading journals, rule reviews, and payout tracking for futures and prop firm traders.

Futures trading involves substantial risk of loss. Past performance does not guarantee future results. Edgetweak reviews the data you provide; it does not place trades or enforce your firm's rules.
